What is Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is a natural healing system that has been practised for thousands of years. It views the body as a whole, where physical, emotional, and mental health are all connected.

Instead of just focusing on symptoms, Chinese Medicine looks to find and treat the root cause of imbalances to restore harmony in the body.

Chinese Medicine is completely individualised, meaning that treatments are tailored to each person, as we all experience health in unique ways. It helps the body heal naturally, prevent illness, and achieve a sense of balance and well-being.

Acupuncture is one of the key treatments in Chinese Medicine. It’s a gentle, natural way to support your body’s healing process and improve your long-term health. If you're interested in learning more about how Chinese Medicine can support you, I'd be happy to help guide you on your path to better health.

We have many ways to support you:

  • Acupuncture - The gentle insertion of fine needles to promote balance and restore function

  • Cupping, Gua Sha & Tuina - Techniques to relieve tension, improve circulation, and support detoxification

  • Moxibustion - A gentle heat therapy using dried mugwort to warm the body, improve circulation, and support healing.

  • Food as Medicine - Eating in a way that aligns with your body’s unique needs.

  • Breath & Movement Practices (Qi Gong, Tai Chi) - Helping to regulate energy and support longevity

  • Herbal Medicine - Herbal formulas tailored to nourish and support the body

What the research says:

According to the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) and research reviews like The Acupuncture Evidence Project, acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial for various health conditions.

  • There is strong evidence supporting acupuncture for chronic lower back pain, migraine prevention, tension headaches, knee osteoarthritis, and postoperative pain relief. These conditions have been well-researched, with high-quality studies demonstrating acupuncture’s effectiveness.

  • Moderate evidence exists for anxiety and stress, depression, neck pain, menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea), nausea and vomiting (related to chemotherapy, pregnancy, or post-surgery), shoulder pain, tennis elbow, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. While research in these areas is positive, additional studies could further strengthen the evidence base.

  • There is also emerging evidence suggesting acupuncture may support fertility and IVF, insomnia and sleep issues, menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes), digestive issues (including IBS, bloating, and constipation), fatigue and low energy, and conditions like fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes. More research is needed in these areas, but initial findings are promising.
